Dr. Salpie Djoundourian

Interim Dean, Adnan Kassar School of Business

Dr. Salpie Djoundourian is an accomplished economist and academic, currently serving as the Interim Dean of the Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB) at the Lebanese American University (LAU). She holds a BS in International Trade and Finance (1985); an MS in Economics (1987); and a PhD in Economics (1993) from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her primary area of expertise is Applied Microeconomics with emphasis in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and Public Finance. 

Dr. Djoundourian is actively involved in academic research and consultancy work for reputable organizations. Her intellectual contributions include refereed journal articles, policy briefs, commissioned studies for both private and public sectors, conference presentations, workshop facilitations, and conference organizations. Her research appears in the Energy Journal, Public Choice, Environment, Development and Sustainability, Regional Studies in Marine Science, People and Nature, Journal of Economic Policy Reform, Family Business Review, and Transportation Research, among others.

Dr. Djoundourian’s career at LAU spans over 30 years.  She served the institution and the School of Business in a variety of administrative and leadership roles, while maintaining her teaching duties in the Department of Economics since 1994. She was the chair of the Departments of Economics and Management (2005-2008); the Assistant Dean of the School of Business-Byblos Campus (2008-2012); and the Associate Dean of the Adnan Kassar School of Business (2012-2018; 2019-2024). Dr. Djoundourian is able to claim well documented administrative accomplishments as a founding member of the School of Business and the Economics Department.  As the Associate Dean of AKSOB, she successfully led the AACSB Accreditation efforts, with AKSOB receiving full accreditation and re-accreditation of its programs in 2016 and 2021, respectively.

Dr. Djoundourian is engaged with professional organizations, including the Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC), the Women in Management Education (WAME) and the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA). She is closely affiliated with the Centre Scientifique de Monaco where she contributes to global policy making in environmental economics, planning and management, specifically in the areas of Climate Change and international cooperation.

Dr. Djoundourian assumed the role of Interim Dean of AKSOB on September 1, 2024.
