Ms. Nour Hajjar

Chief of Staff and General Counsel

Maître Nour Hajjar was appointed to the position of General Counsel in November 2014 and Head of Compliance in 2020. In October 2024, she was also appointed as Chief of Staff.

In that capacity, she provides executive oversight and management of the President’s Office; coordinates and supports the activities of the President’s Cabinet and serves as senior advisor to the president on various administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives and acts as the point person on behalf of the president for crisis management. She is also the university’s chief strategy officer and liaison with external university-affiliated organizations.

Maître Hajjar is responsible for legal and compliance matters related to LAU campuses in Lebanon and New York, including all matters related to oversight by the university’s Board of Trustees. She ensures that all of the university’s and its medical centers’ activities are in compliance with the LAU constitution, bylaws and applicable policies, as well as with higher education laws and medical laws.

She is also responsible for policy drafting and compliance, in addition to providing legal supervision and support toward all major LAU initiatives, as well as all contractual matters, including employment, agreements with suppliers, real estate property purchases, affiliation agreements and grants between LAU and other educational and medical institutions in Lebanon and abroad.

She also provides legal guidance pertaining to the development of subsidiary entities and all contractual agreements needed for LAU and its university medical centers’ operations, initiatives and growth.

She joined LAU in 2014 following an impressive career as an attorney. She initially advised private corporations and non-profit organizations on sound corporate structuring and governance. She then went on to work at Alem & Associates in Beirut, where she represented multinational, regional and local corporate entities in various fields of business.

That experience allowed her to greatly expand her knowledge of international law, as she represented businesses based on the governing laws of the countries where they were incorporated. It also led to her being chosen as the Senior Legal Consultant for GroupMed Insurance Brokers entities in the Middle East and North Africa. There, she was in charge of the operations’ legal support, ensuring the compliance of each company’s activities particularly with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Maître Hajjar holds an LL.B. in Law and a master’s degree in private and business law from Saint Joseph University in Beirut, as well as an Inter-University Diploma in Medical Law from Lorraine University in France and ESA Business School in Beirut. She obtained a license in Leadership in Corporate Counsel from Harvard Law School Executive Education in June 2023. Maître Hajjar is a member of the Beirut Bar Association.

She is an active volunteer in the Lebanese Red Cross. She serves as the vice president of the Lebanese Red Cross’ Beirut Branch, and worked at its Headquarters Internal Affairs Department as Legal Director.
