Restructuring of the Provost’s Office
Dear Colleagues,
In an effort to effectively meet the strategic vision of LAU as a globally engaged comprehensive university, President Mawad has approved the restructuring plan of the Provost’s Office to strategically align with the university’s focus on high impact educational and research practices, innovative delivery of curriculum, faculty development and excellence, wider partnerships and collaborations worldwide, international education and meaningful institutional presence outside Lebanon.
The new Provost’s Office will now include an Associate Provost and three Assistant Provosts who will be helping the Provost in coordinating and advancing university wide academic activities and strategic initiatives.
I am happy to also announce that President Mawad approved my recommendation to appoint the following faculty members to these Provost’s Office positions, effective January 1, 2022:
- Dr. Barbar Akle, Associate Provost for International Education and Programs. Dr. Akle who was serving as Assistant Provost, will be relocated to LAU New York in an effort to restructure it while supporting our international online and on-campus academic activities.
- Dr. Rula Diab, will continue her current role under a new title of Assistant Provost for Accreditation and Academic Operations. Dr. Diab will be coordinating the university’s institutional accreditation process, and maintaining efficient workflow processes within academic affairs, and between academic affairs and other divisions.
- Dr. Michel Khoury is appointed as Assistant Provost for Strategic Planning and Academic Initiatives and Partnerships. Dr. Khoury, who was the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering, will coordinate the implementation of the LAU strategic plan and the monitoring of its progress, and will support the university’s efforts in building partnerships with local and international universities, organizations and corporates.
- Dr. Jordan Srour is appointed as Assistant Provost for Educational Resources and Innovation. Dr. Srour, Associate Professor of Operations Management in the Adnan Kassar School of Business, will be directing and advancing the LAU Libraries and the Center for Innovative Learning in addition to supporting other strategic educational priorities and initiatives.
Please join me in congratulating Drs. Akle, Diab, Khoury and Srour on their new or continued roles in service to the University, and in supporting them in their responsibilities and crucial tasks ahead.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year, hoping that 2022 will be kinder and gentler to us all!
All the best,
George E. Nasr, Ph.D.
