Continuity of Learning Update for Students
Dear Students,I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well.
In our continued effort to enhance your learning experiences, respond to your diverse needs, and ensure the timely completion of your academic studies, the Council of Deans (CD) has resolved to implement a flexible hybrid teaching modality across both campuses, starting Monday, October 21, 2024. The details are as follows:
Continuity of Learning
- Courses will be offered in person, on both the Beirut and Byblos campuses, for those of you who can safely come to campus. Classes scheduled after 3:30 p.m. will primarily be conducted online, synchronously and asynchronously.
- For those of you who cannot safely come to campus, lecture class sessions will be broadcast live (via WebEx or other meeting platforms) and asynchronous recordings will be made available to all students.
- Labs and studios will be conducted mainly in person. Special plans will be made for those of you who cannot attend in person.
- Clinical courses will continue to require in-person attendance and will proceed as scheduled. Special arrangements will be made for those of you unable to attend the clinical site(s).
- If you encounter difficulties in accessing your classes through all the modes of delivery listed above, your instructor will consider your situation and accommodate you on an individual basis to the best extent possible.
Exams/Assessments
- To facilitate the transition from online to hybrid teaching, the CD has resolved that no exams will be held during the week of October 21, 2024.
- Exams are planned to resume on Monday, October 28, 2024. For students unable to take the exams, your instructor will make special arrangements to the best extent possible to help you fulfill the course requirements this semester. In certain cases, you may have the option of receiving an “Incomplete” grade and completing the course requirements in a future semester.
- To enhance flexibility in assessment, faculty may revise their grading systems or adopt alternative assessment methods, where applicable and feasible. Your instructors will follow up with you regarding assessments in your individual courses.
- Attendance, if taken, is solely for record-keeping and follow-up purposes. It will not impact your grade.
As we continue to navigate these exceptionally difficult times, your safety and well-being remain our top priorities, along with our commitment to your academic success.
Please take care and stay safe.
Sincerely,
George E. Nasr, Ph.D.
