Resumption of hybrid operations and classes

The university’s Beirut and Byblos campuses will resume hybrid mode on Thursday November 28 and Friday November 29. Students, faculty and staff will be advised in due course of any change in the instruction modality, as need be. We look forward to a smooth return to normal operations on campus.

Closure on November 27

Further to the decision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and as the safety of our community is our priority, LAU will be closed on November 27, 2024 with no educational activities (online and in-person) taking place on both campuses.

Beirut campus situation update

8:25 p.m. — Students, faculty and staff who are currently on campus are welcome to remain for as long as needed, until it is safe to commute. All shelters and safe areas are available to use, and arrangements to provide food and water are being made.

Instruction modalities for November 25

Further to the decision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and as safety is our priority and out of an abundance of caution to safeguard our students, faculty and staff, the university has decided the following:

Beirut campus:

  • The campus will be operating online, except for essential services, on Monday, November 25.
  • There will be no exams on November 25.
  • All experiential courses and laboratory sessions will be rescheduled to a later date by the departments concerned.
  • Staff whose presence is not critical, please attend to your duties online.

Byblos campus:

We will continue with hybrid instruction on the Byblos campus, and urge those commuting from Beirut to Byblos to avoid taking unnecessary risks and to exercise caution. No exams will be delivered on November 25.

Instruction modalities for November 18 and 19

Further to the decision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and as safety is our priority and out of an abundance of caution to safeguard our students, faculty and staff, the university has decided the following for the Beirut campus effective Monday November 18 and Tuesday November 19:

  • The Beirut campus will be operating online, except for essential services.
  • There will be no exams on either day.
  • All experiential courses and laboratory sessions will be rescheduled to a later date by the departments concerned.
  • Staff whose presence is not critical, please attend to your duties online.

We will continue with hybrid instruction at the Byblos campus, and urge those commuting from Beirut to Byblos to avoid taking unnecessary risks and to exercise caution. No exams will be delivered on November 18–19.

 

Continuity of learning: Hybrid classes as of October 21

In our continued effort to respond to diverse needs while ensuring the timely completion of academic studies, a flexible hybrid teaching modality will be adopted across both Lebanon campuses starting Monday, October 21. Please read the full announcement from the Provost’s Office for details.

Online classes to continue October 14–18

To support academic progress while prioritizing everyone’s safety, classes will primarily continue online during the week of October 14–18, 2024. There will be no exams during that week. Campus resources, including libraries, studios, and labs, will also remain available. We understand some students are facing challenging circumstances, and we are committed to offering the flexibility and support needed during this period.

With our students’ security and wellbeing at the forefront of our concerns in these exceptionally challenging times, classes will resume online on Monday, October 7, 2024. While the university remains closed except for essential services, campus academic resources, such as libraries, studios, and labs, will be accessible to support the learning process.

Dear members of our LAU community,

Our thoughts are with all of you and with those who were directly affected by the current war. We pray for your patience, for your resolve and for your resilience.

In light of the current situation and following the decision of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the university will remain closed until the end of the week.

To ensure the continuity of our mission, we are examining closely the decision to begin online instruction. Please stay tuned for more information from our Provost in this regard.

Closure on September 24

Pursuant to the decision of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, LAU’s campuses and operations will be closed on Tuesday, September 24. Administrative staff providing essential services are asked to attend to their work provided it is safe for them to commute, while exercising their best judgement and coordinating with their supervisor. We pray for everyone’s safety.

Resumption of operations

Further to the decision of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the university will resume its operations on September 19. As usual, please exercise caution in your commute to the campuses in case new developments unfold.

Closure on September 18

In line with the decision of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the university will be closed on September 18. Students will be advised in due course about make-up classes and/or exams at the discretion of their instructors. We will keep you updated as the situation evolves. We pray for the safety of our community and their loved ones.

Online-Only on April 9

Out of an abundance of caution to safeguard the safety of students, faculty and staff, the university has decided the following for both Beirut and Byblos campuses:

  • Courses scheduled for April 9 that can be delivered remotely will be provided online.
  • There will be no exams on April 9.
  • All experiential courses and laboratory sessions scheduled for April 9 will be rescheduled to a later date by the concerned departments.

Everyone is urged to use utmost caution when considering commute to the campus. Staff members whose presence is not critical and cannot make it safely to the campus are urged to attend to their duties online.
