Position Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Computational Biology. We seek a highly motivated and innovative computational biologist to join our vibrant and collaborative research and teaching community.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a competitive and externally funded research program that applies computational and quantitative approaches to address complex biological questions. We encourage candidates whose research complements the department’s strengths in genomics, systems biology, neuroscience, or biomedicine. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with experimental biologists and clinical researchers across LAU, as well as contribute to an interdisciplinary research environment.
In addition to research, the successful candidate will play a key role in developing and teaching courses in computational biology and related disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will also mentor students, including advising undergraduate capstone projects, and master’s theses, and participate in service activities at the departmental and university levels.
In addition to excellence in research and teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute actively to program development, academic advising, and institutional and community service initiatives. Responsibilities:
· Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in general biology and computational biology
· Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
· Oversee senior year projects
· Engage in scholarly work and research
· Be actively involved in supporting and developing the program’s main research tracks
· Engage in service to the department, the university and the profession
· Additional duties may be set by the department in light of departmental needs and priorities.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
· A Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or a closely related field.
· Two years of postdoctoral experience
· Strong record of research accomplishments, including publications in high-impact journals, and demonstrated potential for obtaining external research funding.
· Expertise in computational and quantitative techniques, including but not limited to: Genomics and transcriptomics, Systems biology, Machine learning and AI applications in biology, Network biology, Computational modeling and simulations
· Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) and experience working with large biological datasets.
· Demonstrated excellence in teaching or strong potential to teach computational biology at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
· Strong commitment to mentoring students, fostering diversity, and contributing to an inclusive academic environment.
· Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with biologists, computer scientists, and clinicians at LAU and globally.

The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the eight departments of the School of Arts and Sciences at LAU. It offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Biological Sciences with additional programs upcoming in the near future.
