Position Summary
The Department of English and Creative Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University (LAU) invites qualified and motivated applicants to a full-time position at the Instructor rank to teach courses in the Academic English Sequence.
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of academic writing courses which include ENG 009, ENG 101, ENG 102, ENG 202.
- Assist in the assessment of the Academic English Sequence.
- Coordinate courses in the English Academic Sequence.
- Maintain an active presence on campus and participate actively in the life of the Department and School by proposing activities and by participating in and collaborating on events of academic interest.
- Participate in departmental meetings and serve on departmental, School, and University committees as required by University rules and regulations.
- Fulfill duties as Full-Time Faculty according to the University Policies.
Qualifications
- M.A. in English Language, Rhetoric and Composition, TEFL/TESL or Academic Writing from a recognized institution.
- A Minimum of 3 years of successful university teaching experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The Department
The Department of English and Creative Arts (ECA) is a multidisciplinary entity at LAU encompassing the various branches of arts in the School of Arts and Sciences. This includes English, Translation, Performing Arts and TV/Film. It also hosts the Intensive English Program, the Academic English Sequence and the Writing Center that serve all students. The department adopts innovative education based, mainly, on Liberal Arts, and aims to promote the culture of learning which dovetails theory and practice, and enhances the culture of critical, analytical and creative thinking. It offers Four undergraduate BA degrees in addition to several minors in relevant disciplines. It also endeavors to fulfill the mission of LAU and the School by educating young learners in Lebanon, the region and beyond, by advancing scholarship, and by contributing to preparing students to serve the common good of their communities and humanity at large.
