The Library Technologies and Innovation Unit is currently looking for a Creative Space Supervisor reporting to the Library Technologies and Innovation Manager. This position is based on Beirut Campus.Role Summary
The Creative Space Supervisor plays a central role in fostering a hub for innovation and exploration within the LAU Libraries. S/he is responsible for supervising the daily activities of the “maker space” lab housed within the Riyad Nassar Library (RNL). This requires ensuring the seamless functioning of cutting-edge tools such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, VR/AR equipment, sewing machines, electronic prototyping platforms and other tools for creative and innovative pursuits.
The Creative Space Supervisor will also engage in recommending and introducing the latest technologies to enhance creative space offerings while fostering an environment conducive to exploration, experimentation, and creativity among all students, faculty, and staff.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises the daily activities of the lab ensuring the efficient operation of all equipment for a smooth workflow
- Handles routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment; schedules repairs as needed
- Develops and implements operational procedures to ensure the efficient utilization of resources and adherence to safety protocols
- Evaluates and recommends the purchase of new equipment and software to ensure the lab’s optimal functionality
- Provides technical assistance for all lab projects
- Guides students, faculty and staff through individual or group consultations helping them conceptualize and execute projects effectively using available tools
- Develops and conducts workshops and training sessions on use of equipment and safety guidelines
- Collaborates with faculty to develop lab modules and supports the integration of the creative space into courses
- Coordinates the procurement of consumables and spare parts for the smooth operation of all creative space tools
- Stays abreast of emerging technologies and trends in digital fabrication and creative arts to enhance the offerings of the creative space
- Creates and maintains lab documentation, including user guides, safety manuals, and operating procedures
- Coordinates with faculty, the Center for Innovative Learning, Fouad Makhzoumi Innovation Center, the Industrial Hub, the operations office, and other LAU offices as needed
- Collaborates with other library units to integrate the creative space services into the overall library offerings and events
- Performs other duties pertaining to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, digital media, design, or a relevant technical field
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in a similar capacity, preferably in an academic setting
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting various tools and equipment, including but not limited to 3D printers, sewing machines, and 3D scanners.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices related to the operation of digital fabrication equipment
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Arabic (written and spoken)
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical skills
