Engineering Computer Center Administrator - Byblos
The School of Engineering is currently looking for an Engineering Computer Center Administrator reporting to the Engineering Computer Center Manager. This position is based on the Byblos campus.Role Summary
The Engineering Computer Center Administrator is responsible for administering the daily activities of all computer labs within the School of Engineering Computer Center, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of its servers and workstations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Administers the day-to-day operations of all computer center labs
- Installs and configures lab computers and server software, and continuously installs necessary patches and software updates
- Performs regular maintenance, updates and backup of data on computer lab equipment
- Diagnoses, repairs and possibly replaces defective hardware on academic lab machines
- Provides technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff using the computer labs. Installs, manages, and administers software packages as required
- Creates and updates system permissions, user accounts, and mailing lists
- Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software issues
- Assists the manager with purchase orders. Follows up on delivery ensuring timely arrival; validates the functionality of newly-purchased equipment
- Ensures that all safety and security protocols are followed to protect data integrity
- Provides guidance and training to users on proper lab procedures and equipment usage
- Assists in developing and updating user manuals and guides as needed
- Supports the implementation of Center policies and procedures as directed by the Computer Center Manager
- Maintains the computer labs as a safe study space by intervening/reporting harassments and/or safety hazards of any kind according to established protocols
- Works closely with other computer lab administrators and support teams to ensure cohesive operations across all labs
- Updates equipment inventory for tracking purposes. Maintains documentation of all projects
- Participates in team meetings and contributes to discussions on computer lab management and improvement
- Reports on the status and progress of work to the Computer Center Manager
- Generates administrative reports as requested
- Stays up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the role
- Acts as backup for computer center staff on both campuses, when needed
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an academic environment
- Experience with computer hardware, software, servers and HPCs, active directories; programming and scripting experience; windows clients and server’s configuration
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work within a diversified team and foster a spirit of cooperation and integrity
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, except when the Computer Center is being used on weekends or holidays, with possible/ occasional attendance after hours to ensure adequate coverage during exam periods and/or to perform upgrades and maintenance and/or to provide backup during staff absences within the unit on both campuses.
