Experience

LAUers in More Ways than One

Khalil Feghali

Dear Michael,

Subject:  Against All Odds

Your professional journey began in summer of 2022 when you managed to secure a two-month internship in Dubai with a designer and manufacturer of electric control & relay panels, substation control and monitoring systems, and SCADA panels. This experience allowed you to gain valuable experience on the professional and personal levels.

I admire you for being proactive and applying to jobs in North America in September 2022, although you were only due to complete your studies in Electrical Engineering in January 2023.  Within a month,  in October 2022, you were offered the position of Electrical Engineer at the head office of Avangrid Networks – a hydroelectric generation, electric transmission/distribution and natural gas distribution company serving New England, Pennsylvania and New York, and a subsidiary of Iberdrola, which is the biggest producer of wind power and the world’s second electricity utility by market capitalization – in Orange, Connecticut.

Even though the job offer specified December 5, 2022, as your starting day, the employer accepted to postpone it to January 16, 2023, after you had completed your last semester at LAU, stating that they’d rather wait for someone qualified than have someone with lesser capabilities start immediately.

I cannot express enough how proud I am of what you have achieved so far, especially as you will be moving to the US on your own at the young age of 22. Your supervisors at work are very satisfied with your performance and consider you to be very mature for your age.  I am also very impressed with your drive for continuous improvement and future plans on the professional level.

May God always keep you from harm and may he pave the way for you to succeed in all your future endeavors.

Love,

Dad

Dear Mom and Dad,

Graduating marks a significant milestone in my life, and I want to acknowledge that I couldn’t have achieved it without your love, guidance, and sacrifices. From the very beginning, you believed in me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Your endless encouragement gave me the confidence to tackle challenges, conquer obstacles, and strive for excellence.

But beyond the academic achievements, I am most grateful for the values you instilled in me. You taught me to be compassionate, respectful, and kind. You showed me the importance of integrity and empathy. While words may not be enough to convey the depth of my gratitude, I am eternally grateful for everything you have done and continue to do for me.

I hope I have made you proud and look forward to making you both proud in all my future endeavors.

Michael
