LAUers in More Ways than One

Samia Helou Najjar BS ’96; MBA ’02

Dear Marc,

On the occasion of your graduation, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions – pride, joy, nostalgia, and a touch of anxiety. This moment marks a significant milestone in your life, as you transition to yet another level of education, to embrace the vast possibilities that lie ahead. As a parent, I cannot help but reflect on the journey that has brought us to this point and offer some advice and thoughts as you embark on this new chapter.

First and foremost, I am incredibly proud of your achievements. The countless hours of hard work, dedication, and perseverance you have put into your studies have paid off. I have witnessed your growth, not only academically but also as an individual, and it fills my heart with joy to see the person you have become. I want you to remember that life is not just about the destination but also about the experiences and lessons learned along the way. It’s essential to savour the journey and cherish the moments of growth and self-discovery. Each step you take, whether big or small, will contribute to shaping the person you will become. As you move on in life, I hope that you will choose a path that aligns with your passions and values. Money and prestige may be tempting, but true fulfilment comes from doing what you love and making a positive impact on others and on society as a whole. While pursuing your dreams, I encourage you to remember the importance of balance. Finding time for family, friends, hobbies, and self-care will contribute to your overall well-being and happiness. Success is not just about professional accomplishments but also about leading a fulfilling and meaningful life and making a difference.

Inevitably, there will be times when you face failures or disappointments. During these moments, it’s crucial to remember that setbacks are a natural part of life. Instead of dwelling on them, I encourage you to use failures as stepping-stones for growth. The ability to learn from mistakes and bounce back stronger will help you build resilience and strength. Believe in yourself and in God. I also want you to remember that you are never alone on this journey. As a family, we will always be here to support and cheer you on, no matter where life takes you. Additionally, I encourage you to surround yourself with positive and uplifting people who inspire and challenge you to become the best version of yourself.

In conclusion, your graduation is a momentous occasion, filled with pride and excitement. As you take the next steps in your life journey, I offer you the advice to embrace the unknown with courage and an open mind, to cherish the journey and the experiences it brings, to never stop learning and growing, to pursue your passions and values. I hope you will never lose  faith in God, and always count your blessings and see the beauty of life no matter how hard things get.

With love,

Samia

Dear mom and dad,

I’m incredibly thankful for the amazing support I had during my graduation journey. It’s been a blast of hard work and excitement, and having my mom Samia and my dad George as my family was the best source of motivation that kept me going! I couldn’t have done it without your love and encouragement. Thank you for being there every step of the way, cheering me on, and believing in me. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful parents like you.

Love you both!

Marc
