They say it takes a village to raise a child, well as a mother of four, among whom are triplets, I can confidently say that it was quite an adventure. Raising triplets meant creating a delicate balance between honoring their individuality all while nurturing their shared connection. As my children grew older, giving each one of them the attention and care they needed became arduous by the minute. However, the unwavering support that surrounded me not only alleviated the load but also instilled in me the power and impact that a community can create.
Amidst the sleepless nights and endless obstacles, there was an indescribable pride watching my children grow into the people they are today. As two of my triplets marched at the graduation, I could not help but feel proud overwhelmingly grateful for the university that has given my children the opportunity to learn at this prestigious institution, and to allow them to be a part of a community that celebrates success in all shapes and forms. My heart swells having witnessed both Farah and Marc’s academic achievements and personal growth, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them as I am confident in their capabilities, their strong mindsets, determination and dedication to make a difference in this world.
Along the numerous life lessons that I was gifted through my journey as a mother, I was dedicated to nurture the sense of community and belonging in my children as I have witnessed first-hand the importance of unity when I saw and felt all the support that was provided to me from the moment my children entered this world. From family to close friends, we all shared the joys and responsibilities that came upon us. This support made me realize the divine strength that I did not know I had in me to persist even when things got hard, and now that I watch them become the remarkable young adults that they are today, I realized that all these challenges were a powerful force that was meant to propel us forward.
Now that I see my children embark on the next chapter of their life, I am overwhelmed with a touch of nostalgia and excitement for what awaits them. This journey was a transformative experience to say the least, molding not only their lives but my own and their father’s as well. Finally, I would like to set them off to the world with this piece of advice: Never shy away from the pursuit of knowledge, always face opportunities head on, and never turn your back on a challenge. It is important to remember that life is a wave of ups and downs and that you will experience success and failure, but what is most important is to keep going.
Proud to be LAUers,
Sincerely,
Souad Hasbany
