Earlier this November, LAU held several events to commemorate World Diabetes Day and raise awareness.
LAU Byblos campus got the ball rolling with a collaboration between the Nutrition Club and the National Diabetes Organization (DiaLeb), with the Beirut campus following suit the very next day. They provided awareness publications and free glucose testing as well as a nutritional assessment of diabetes risk factors, and ended the session with talks by faculty member Dr. Maya Bassil, Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition, and DiaLeb founder and president, Dr. Jackie Maalouf.
Nutrition Club students from Beirut also organized a daylong awareness event in ABC Ashrafieh on November 14, inviting passersby to challenge their conceptions and giving them more information on the disease and how to prevent it.
The Medical Students Association (MSA) at LAU Byblos held a diabetes awareness campaign entitled “Are You At Risk”, where students, faculty and staff had the chance to check their vital signs and blood glucose level. The students performed checkups on students, staff, and faculty members and gave some counseling.
